My name is Julia Horel, but you might know me as Julie. I went by Julie my entire life until I was eighteen, decided I prefer my full name, and switched to Julia. My parents and my high school friends still call me Julie, and my newer friends call me Julia – you can call me either, or just Jules. I’ll respond to almost anything these days!
I was a camper from 1996-1999, a CIT in 2000, and a staff member (Goshrim and waterfront) in 2002. I never thought I’d have the opportunity to return to camp, but four years after my last summer, I’m coming back, and I couldn’t be more excited! Some of the things I’m looking forward to the most are seeing all the changes and additions that have gone on at camp since 2002, socials, Shabbat dinners, Maccabia, and my favorite peulot: Bama and swimming.
I’m going intomy final year of an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English, at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. I’m a member of the varsity swim team and I’ve worked as a proofreader for the past two years for my student newspaper.
I’ll be on the lookout for swimming partners for the summer to do laps with me, so if you’re interested in joining me for a swim, come find me! I’m also planning to give waterskiing another try – I’ve tried every summer, but I’ve never been able to get up for longer than a few seconds. Any experts out there with tips for me?
My role at camp is to work as a support staff and I want to get to know as many of you as possible. I’m always up for a hug or a chat or just hanging out, so don’t hesitate to approach me anytime!
