BUILDING CAMP SPIRIT AT KADIMAH

Earlier this year, 12 year old Kadimah camper, Allie Fenwick of Toronto, celebrated her Bat Mitzvah which marked her right of passage as a “daughter of commandment,” responsible for adherence to Jewish ritual law, tradition, and ethics. In her first act as a young adult, Allie asked her parents, Gail and Joel Fenwick, if she could donate a portion of her Bat Mitzvah money to Kadimah. This gesture of Tzedakah thrilled Allie’s parents who met at the camp in the 80’s, and touched the members of the Camp Committee. This is her story.
My name is Allie Fenwick and this summer will be my fifth year at Camp Kadimah, and my second year of Kochot. I have a strong connection to the camp through the many members of my family who have attended Kadimah in the past. Their amazing stories of the camp and the people who go there were inspiring.
I like Kadimah for a number of reasons. There are great daily activities and some very special ones throughout the summer that I look forward to. Also, the camp spirit at Kadimah is truly amazing and hits you the minute that you step off the bus.
As a Jew, Camp Kadimah has special meaning for me. I believe that it’s not only important to go to a Jewish day school to study my faith, but it is equally important to go to a Jewish camp that supports my beliefs. At camp, I have the opportunity to participate in fun activities and learn more about Judaism. Kadimah is truly my second home.
I really wanted to donate a portion of my Bat Mitzvah money to Kadimah because I felt that other kids should be able to have fun at summer camp they way I do. The money that I donated will be used for families who cannot afford to send their children to camp this summer. I’m looking forward to meeting those new campers and adding them to my long list of camp friends.
